4 Days Tour from Marrakech to Fes | Best Desert Experience

After breakfast, leave Dades Valley and travel toward Tinghir. The route continues through the palm-filled valley to Todra Gorge, where you can get out of the vehicle and walk between the high limestone walls before continuing east.

The landscape becomes drier as the tour passes toward Erfoud, often considered one of the gateways to the Sahara Desert. From here, continue to the Merzouga desert and the Erg Chebbi dunes. Because this is a 4 day desert tour, there is no need to fit your full Merzouga experience into the afternoon of your arrival.

Your second night is spent at a hotel or riad in Merzouga. This gives you time to rest after the drive and prepares you for a full day exploring the desert area on Day 3. Dinner and breakfast are included at your Merzouga accommodation.

Day 3 is dedicated to the Merzouga Sahara Desert. After breakfast, set out by 4×4 to explore the area surrounding the Erg Chebbi dunes. Rather than simply arriving for a camel ride and leaving the following morning, this extra day gives you a better sense of the landscapes and communities around Merzouga.

The exact desert excursion can vary according to local conditions. Your driver-guide will take you through the areas around the dunes, with stops that may include small settlements, desert viewpoints and places connected to the traditional way of life around Merzouga. There is also time to return to your accommodation and prepare for the afternoon camel trek.

Later, meet your camel caravan and ride across the Erg Chebbi dunes around sunset, roughly an hour each way. Travelers who do not want to ride can reach the camp by 4×4 instead. Your luggage is transferred separately. Spend the night in the desert camp in a private en-suite tent, air-conditioned at every accommodation category, followed by dinner beneath the desert sky.

You can wake before breakfast to watch sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast at the Sahara desert camp, leave Merzouga and begin the journey toward Fes. The route heads north through the Ziz Valley, where stops can be made at viewpoints overlooking the river, palm groves and surrounding landscape.

Continue toward Midelt and into the Middle Atlas. Later in the day, the tour reaches the cedar forest near Azrou, where Barbary macaques are often seen. From the forest, travel toward Ifrane, a mountain town known for its cooler climate and architecture.

The final drive continues from Ifrane toward the city of Fes. You normally reach Fes in the late afternoon or early evening, depending on traffic and the stops made during the day. Drop-off is at your hotel or riad in Fes, or the nearest vehicle-accessible point if you are staying inside the medina.

Day 1 travels from Marrakech across the High Atlas Mountains to Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, Skoura and Dades Valley. Day 2 continues through Tinghir and Todra Gorge to Merzouga. The main difference is the extra day in Merzouga. The 3-day Marrakech to Fes tour reaches Merzouga on Day 2 and leaves for Fes the following morning. The 4-day tour gives you a full additional day in the desert area, including a 4×4 excursion, before you continue to Fes.

Spring and autumn generally offer comfortable conditions. Winter can be cold at night in the Sahara and in the Atlas Mountains, while summer afternoons around Merzouga can be very hot. The tour can operate throughout the year, subject to road and weather conditions.

Vehicle type is matched to the number of travelers. Groups of 2–3 generally travel by private 4×4, groups of 4–8 by minivan, and larger groups by minibus. Specific vehicle models depend on availability.

There is no standard shared group size because this is a private tour. The trip is operated for the travelers included in your booking.

A private tour provides your own vehicle and driver-guide, more flexibility for reasonable sightseeing and comfort stops, and no need to coordinate the day’s schedule with unrelated travelers.

Vegetarian and many other dietary requirements can generally be accommodated at the hotels and desert camps. Tell us about any dietary requirements before the tour so we can notify the accommodation providers.

Tips are optional rather than compulsory. If you are happy with the service, you can tip your driver-guide directly at the end of the tour according to your own preference.

Mobile coverage is available across much of the route, but signal quality can vary in mountain and desert areas. Some hotels and desert camps provide Wi-Fi, but it should not be expected to have the same reliability as in Marrakech or Fes.

Normal travel luggage can be carried in the vehicle. Your luggage is transferred to the desert camp, although taking a small overnight bag can be more convenient. If your group has unusually large or numerous suitcases, tell us beforehand so the appropriate vehicle can be arranged.
