Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour | 3 Day Sahara Experience

Wake early if you would like to watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes before breakfast at the desert camp. After leaving Merzouga, travel through the Tafilalet region toward Rissani, an important historic trading town. If your journey falls on a Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday, you can stop at the traditional Rissani market, when the town is especially lively with local traders and residents from the surrounding villages.

Continue west toward Tinghir and Todra Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs rise above the narrow canyon. You will have time to walk through the gorge, enjoy the scenery, and take photographs before continuing through the surrounding palm groves and Amazigh villages.

In the afternoon, travel toward the Dades Valley, passing cultivated valleys and distinctive rock formations along the way. Arrive at your hotel or riad in the late afternoon, settle in, and enjoy a relaxed evening followed by dinner.

After breakfast, leave the Dades Valley and travel west toward Ouarzazate, passing kasbahs, small villages, and the open landscapes of southern Morocco. In Ouarzazate, you can optionally visit Atlas Studios, one of the country’s best-known film studios, before continuing the journey.

Next, continue to Ait Ben Haddou, the famous fortified ksar and UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will have time to explore the village on foot, walk through its narrow earthen passageways, and enjoy views across the surrounding valley before continuing toward the High Atlas Mountains.

In the afternoon, cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with scenic stops along the way for photographs and panoramic views. From there, descend toward Marrakech, where your Fes to Marrakech desert tour ends with drop-off at your hotel, riad, or the nearest vehicle-accessible point in the evening.

This 3-day tour covers the same route between Fes and Marrakech in fewer, longer driving days. The 4-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour spreads the same distance over an extra day, with shorter daily drives and more time at each stop, which suits travelers who prefer less time in the vehicle per day over a shorter total trip.

A private tour is operated only for your booking, with a vehicle and driver-guide assigned to your group. This gives you more flexibility with stops and comfort breaks. A group tour normally combines travelers from separate bookings and follows a more fixed schedule.

A practical Fes to Marrakech 3 days itinerary travels from Fes through Ifrane, Azrou, the Middle Atlas Mountains and Ziz Valley to Merzouga on day one. Day two continues from the Merzouga desert through Todra Gorge to the Dades Valley. Day three passes Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou before crossing the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakech.

Spring and autumn generally provide comfortable conditions for this route. Winter can bring cold nights in Merzouga and cooler weather in the mountains, while summer temperatures in the Sahara can be very high during the afternoon. The tour can operate throughout the year, subject to road and weather conditions.

Vehicle type depends on your group size and availability. For 2–3 travelers, we generally use a 4×4 such as a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado TX. Groups of 4–8 generally travel by minivan, such as a Mercedes-Benz Vito or Ford Tourneo Custom. Larger groups travel by minibus. Day one covers approximately 470 km, day two around 275 km, and day three approximately 350 km. These driving estimates exclude sightseeing and other stops.

Yes. Solo travelers can book the trip as a private tour. Because the vehicle and driver-guide are reserved for one booking, the per-person cost is higher for a solo traveler than for couples or larger groups. The current solo rate is shown in the price table above.

Ideal Desert Camp, Tawada Luxury Desert Camp and Antares Desert Camp are examples of the three accommodation categories. The exact camp, room features and climate-control facilities are confirmed according to the selected category and availability for your dates.
