MARRAKECH. THE ATLAS. TWO SAHARA NIGHTS.

One week in Marrakech and the Sahara, planned from arrival to departure

This 7-day Marrakech itinerary combines a city stay with a private journey into southern Morocco. Arrive at Marrakech Menara Airport, settle into your riad and spend the following day exploring the medina with a licensed local guide. The desert road trip begins on Day 3, leaving time to enjoy Marrakech before you cross the mountains.

Travel through the High Atlas to Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate and Dades Valley, then continue through Todra Gorge to the Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga. A camel trek and camp night are followed by a full private 4×4 exploration day, with Khamlia, the Mifis area and a family visit subject to local availability. Spend your second Sahara-area night at a hotel or riad near the dunes.

Return via Agdez, the Draa Valley and the High Atlas on Day 6, with a final Marrakech night before your airport transfer. Your six stays follow a clear order: Marrakech twice, Dades, desert camp, Merzouga hotel and Marrakech again. The standard package includes six breakfasts and three dinners, with final arrangements confirmed in your quote.

THE JOURNEY, DAY BY DAY

Your 7-day Marrakech and Sahara itinerary

Days 1 and 7 are arrival and departure days. Day 2 is guided Marrakech sightseeing; Days 3–6 form the desert circuit. Road estimates exclude visits, meals and breaks unless stated otherwise.

Day 1: Arrive in Marrakech

Welcome to Marrakech. Your driver meets you at Menara Airport and takes you to your hotel or riad, or the nearest vehicle-accessible point if you are staying inside the medina. Share your flight details when booking so the arrival transfer can be planned around your landing time and airport formalities.

Once you have settled in, the rest of the day is yours. If your arrival leaves time and energy, take a first stroll through the neighborhood, find a terrace for mint tea or enjoy an independent introduction to Jemaa el-Fna. There is no fixed sightseeing program to catch after your flight; the guided city visit is tomorrow.

Enjoy your first evening in Marrakech and rest before the journey ahead. Your room follows the property’s normal check-in arrangements; if you need early access, let us know so availability and any extra charge can be checked. This is the first of two consecutive nights in the city.

Night 1: Marrakech · breakfast included; dinner separate.

Approximate travel: Airport transfer only; typically around 15–30 minutes of road travel to central Marrakech, depending on the property and traffic. Medina access may require a short walk.

Day 2: Full-Day Guided Tour of Marrakech

After breakfast, meet your licensed local guide for a day discovering Marrakech. Explore the historic medina and the Koutoubia Mosque area, then visit selected landmarks such as Bahia Palace and Ben Youssef Madrasa according to opening hours, your interests and the agreed walking route. Monument entrance fees are separate.

Follow your guide through streets lined with spice stalls, woven textiles, lanterns and artisan workshops. Between the busier souks, pause in quieter lanes and squares to learn how the medina’s neighborhoods fit together. The day allows time for lunch, photographs and questions, rather than trying to enter every monument on a fixed checklist.

Continue toward Jemaa el-Fna before finishing the guided visit. Your evening is independent: return to your riad, enjoy dinner on a rooftop or revisit the square as the atmosphere changes after dark. If Majorelle Garden is a priority, request it before booking so ticket availability, transport and the day’s schedule can be reviewed.

Night 2: Marrakech · second night; breakfast included; dinner separate.

Approximate travel: Approximately 6–7 hours of guided touring with lunch and breaks; mostly walking, not continuous driving.

Day 3: Marrakech ⇢ High Atlas Mountains ⇢ Ait Ben Haddou ⇢ Ouarzazate ⇢ Dades Valley

Leave Marrakech after an early breakfast and climb into the High Atlas Mountains. The road winds past terraced hillsides, Amazigh villages and wide mountain views toward the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Make selected stops to stretch your legs and enjoy the changing landscape before descending toward the earthen settlements of southern Morocco.

Explore Ait Ben Haddou, the fortified ksar known for its layered earthen buildings and narrow passageways. Walk through the old settlement and, if you are comfortable with the uneven paths, continue toward higher viewpoints. Travel onward through Ouarzazate; an Atlas Film Studios visit is optional, at additional cost and only if timing allows.

Continue through the southern valleys toward Dades, with palm groves, villages and kasbah scenery along the way. As the afternoon light softens, arrive at your hotel or riad in Dades Valley and settle in for dinner. This overnight divides the outward journey to Merzouga, leaving time for Todra Gorge the following morning.

Night 3: Dades Valley · dinner and breakfast included.

Approximate travel: Approximately 320–350 km; 6–7 driving hours, excluding visits, lunch and comfort stops.

Day 4: Dades Valley ⇢ Todra Canyon ⇢ Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, leave Dades and travel toward Tinghir, where palm gardens and traditional settlements spread along the valley floor. Continue into Todra Gorge, also called Todra Canyon, for a walk beneath its high limestone walls. Take time for photographs and fresh air before returning to the road toward the Sahara.

Travel through the dry landscapes and small towns of southeastern Morocco, with a lunch stop along the way. Near Merzouga, the dunes of Erg Chebbi begin to rise beyond the village edge. Meet the camp team and prepare a small overnight bag while your main luggage is transferred separately.

Take a camel trek planned around sunset, with the exact timing and duration adjusted to arrival, camp location and conditions. If you prefer not to ride, a 4×4 transfer can be arranged instead. At camp, settle into your private en-suite tent, enjoy dinner and spend the evening taking in the desert surroundings before your full exploration day.

Night 4: Merzouga desert camp · dinner and breakfast included.

Approximate travel: Approximately 260–275 km; 4–5 driving hours, excluding Todra Gorge, lunch, breaks and the camel trek.

Day 5: Explore Merzouga by Private 4×4: Khamlia, Mifis and a Family Visit

If conditions and timing allow, begin with sunrise near the dunes before breakfast at camp. Meet your driver for a private 4×4 excursion around Erg Chebbi, following suitable desert tracks to viewpoints beyond the main village edge. This full day lets you see more of the Sahara region than the camp night alone.

Visit Khamlia, known for its Gnawa musical heritage, and continue toward the former Mifis mining area. A visit with a local nomadic family is planned subject to their availability and wishes, with time for conversation and tea when welcomed. Ask permission before photographing people. The seasonal lake can be considered when water levels and local conditions make a visit worthwhile; wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.

Allow time for lunch and photographs before returning to a hotel or riad near Merzouga for your second Sahara-area night. Relax after the excursion and enjoy dinner before the early departure tomorrow. Optional quad biking or buggy activities can be requested separately, subject to availability and additional cost. The standard plan is one camp night followed by one hotel night.

Night 5: Merzouga hotel or riad · dinner and breakfast included.

Approximate travel: Approximately 50–80 km of local travel, depending on the route; 4–6 hours including visits and stops, not continuous driving.

Day 6: Merzouga ⇢ Agdez ⇢ Draa Valley ⇢ High Atlas Mountains ⇢ Marrakech

After an early breakfast, leave Merzouga for the longest road day of the trip. Travel west through the landscapes around Rissani, Alnif and Nkob toward Agdez, also spelled Agdz. Open desert plains give way to rocky hills, villages and the palm-filled scenery of the Draa Valley. Stops focus on comfort, meals and selected viewpoints so the return remains realistic.

Continue through Agdez toward Ouarzazate before climbing back into the High Atlas Mountains. This southern section brings different scenery from the outward route through Dades and Todra, but the journey is not entirely on new roads: you cross the High Atlas again on the return to Marrakech. Additional major sightseeing visits are not planned for this long transfer day.

Arrive in Marrakech in the evening, with the exact time depending on traffic, weather and breaks. Check into your hotel or riad for the final night and enjoy a quiet evening after the journey. Your flight is planned for Day 7, so you have an overnight stay between the desert return and departure; do not book a same-evening flight around this road transfer.

Night 6: Marrakech · final night; breakfast included; dinner separate.

Approximate travel: Approximately 560–590 km; allow around 9–10 driving hours plus meal and comfort stops. Confirm the estimate for your exact properties and route.

Day 7: Marrakech Airport Transfer

Enjoy breakfast and any remaining time according to your flight schedule. Your private transfer takes you from your accommodation, or its nearest accessible pickup point, to Marrakech Menara Airport. The pickup time is agreed around your departure and the time needed for airport check-in.

If your flight is later, you may have time for a final independent walk or coffee before leaving. Hotel checkout follows the property’s arrangements, so ask in advance if you need late room access or luggage storage. Additional sightseeing is not part of the standard departure-day schedule.

Your seven-day Marrakech and Sahara journey ends at the airport after six nights connecting the medina, High Atlas, southern valleys and Erg Chebbi. Let us know about any flight changes so the transfer details can be reviewed before your final morning.

Departure · no accommodation tonight.

Approximate travel: Local airport transfer; usually around 15–30 minutes of road travel from central Marrakech, depending on the property and traffic. Check-in time is additional.

Practical details for one week from Marrakech

Allow for the long return

Day 6 is approximately 9–10 driving hours before lunch and breaks. The Day 6 Marrakech overnight protects the intended schedule before a Day 7 departure, but travel times remain estimates. If that drive is too long for you, ask to add a return overnight and extend the trip.

Pack for changing conditions

Bring comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, a warm layer, a small camp bag and personal essentials. Check the forecast close to travel: the mountain roads, city and desert can feel very different on the same trip.

Tell us what you need

Share mobility requirements, dietary needs, children’s ages and room preferences. The medina, kasbah paths and dunes may involve uneven ground and steps; activities can be reviewed before booking.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE

Questions about your 7-day Marrakech itinerary

Is seven days enough for Marrakech and the Sahara?

Yes, for this focused southern route, provided you accept a long Day 6 return drive. The week includes arrival, a full Marrakech guided day, four days on the desert circuit and departure. It does not try to include northern cities as well.

Does this tour start and finish in Marrakech?

Yes. Day 1 includes Marrakech Menara Airport arrival transfer and Day 7 includes departure transfer. You return to Marrakech on Day 6 and stay overnight before your flight.

How many nights are included?

Six: Marrakech on Nights 1 and 2, Dades on Night 3, Merzouga camp on Night 4, a Merzouga hotel or riad on Night 5, and Marrakech again on Night 6.

How much does the seven-day Marrakech tour cost?

Indicative rates range from €545 per person for your own party of 10 or more to €1,800 for one traveler. For two travelers, the indicative rate is €985 each. These are private-booking prices, not shared seats; dates, accommodation and room arrangements determine your final quote.

Is a full guided Marrakech day included?

Yes, Day 2 includes a licensed local guide. The route focuses on the medina, souks and selected historic sites according to opening hours and your interests; entrance fees are separate.

Is Majorelle Garden included?

It is not part of the standard included visit. Request it before booking so tickets, transport, timing and any additional cost can be reviewed.

Do we spend two nights in the Sahara?

You spend two nights around Merzouga: one at camp and one in a hotel or riad near the dunes. This provides a full exploration day without promising two camp nights.

What is included in the Merzouga 4×4 excursion?

Day 5 explores the Erg Chebbi area, Khamlia and the former Mifis mining area. A family visit depends on local availability. The seasonal lake is considered when water levels and conditions allow; wildlife is not guaranteed.

Can I skip the camel ride?

Yes. A 4×4 camp transfer can be arranged instead. Let us know your preference before travel so the transfer and luggage arrangements are clear.

How long is the camel trek?

The duration depends on the selected camp, dune route and operating conditions. It is planned around sunset when timing allows; your confirmed arrangements will explain the transfer options.

How long is the drive from Merzouga to Marrakech?

Allow approximately 9–10 driving hours via Agdez and the High Atlas, plus meal and comfort stops. It is the longest road day. Exact timing depends on properties, traffic, weather and the route.

Is Agdez the same as Agdz?

Yes. Both spellings refer to the town on the return route through the Draa Valley. This itinerary passes through the area without an overnight there.

Can I fly out on Day 6?

The standard itinerary is designed for a Day 7 departure after a Marrakech overnight. A same-evening flight on Day 6 would depend on a long road transfer and is not the schedule offered here.

Does the route repeat the same roads?

Partly. The outward journey follows Dades and Todra; the return travels through the Agdez and Draa Valley area. The High Atlas crossing and some other sections are used in both directions.

Are meals included?

The standard package includes six breakfasts and three dinners, at Dades, the camp and the Merzouga hotel. Marrakech dinners, lunches and drinks are separate; your quote confirms the arrangements.

Are Fes, Chefchaouen or Essaouira included?

No. This is a Marrakech and southern Morocco round trip. Adding those destinations changes the route and may require more days.

Can families take this itinerary?

Share children’s ages and any seating, room or activity requirements before booking. The longest drive and the uneven walking routes are important considerations when deciding whether this pace suits your family.

Can the route be customized?

Yes. We can review accommodation, activities and pacing. Major additions or a return overnight between Merzouga and Marrakech may require extending the trip and changing the quote.

How does this differ from a four-day desert tour?

The four-day circuit focuses on the desert journey. This seven-day holiday adds three Marrakech nights, a full city-guide day and airport-transfer days around the desert circuit. The Sahara overnight order may also differ.

How do I book and what are the cancellation terms?

Send your dates, party size, flight details and accommodation preference. We confirm the itinerary and quote before the agreed deposit. Read your written terms and the cancellation policy before paying.
