Your Private 5-Day Marrakech Itinerary with the Sahara
This 5-day Marrakech itinerary combines a three-day Sahara road trip with two nights in the city and a guided Marrakech visit. It is designed around flights into and out of Marrakech: arrive on day one, cross the Atlas on day two, sleep at a Merzouga camp on day three, return on day four and explore the medina on day five.
Your Marrakech and Sahara tour takes you through Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate and the Dades Valley before continuing through Todra Canyon to Merzouga. The return follows Agdez and the Draa Valley. Each overnight stay, the private transport and the included guiding are arranged as one booking by our Morocco-based team.
Choose this private Marrakech tour package when you want a desert camp experience without organizing a separate riad stay, airport pickup and city guide. Your Sahara desert tour from Marrakech includes one camp night and a camel trek or alternative 4×4 transfer. The route has three substantial driving days, especially the return from Merzouga; a longer stay is the better choice if you want a full day exploring the dunes.

Marrakech Itinerary: 5 Days from Arrival to Departure
The three main road stages total approximately 1,185 km, plus airport and local city travel. Driving estimates below exclude sightseeing, lunch, breaks and camp transfers. Road conditions and traffic affect arrival times. Day four is the longest drive; your Marrakech overnight follows it before the final city visit.
Day 1: Arrive in Marrakech
Your private five-day trip begins with pickup at Marrakech Menara Airport. Share your flight number before traveling so our team can agree the meeting arrangements. Your driver takes you to your Marrakech hotel or riad, or the nearest vehicle-accessible point to your accommodation. The remaining approach to a medina riad may be on foot.
Settle into your room and use the rest of the day at your own pace. If your arrival leaves time, walk toward Jemaa el-Fna for a first look at the square and choose somewhere for dinner. There is no scheduled sightseeing to catch after your flight; the guided Marrakech visit takes place on day five.
This first city night is part of the package. Keep walking shoes, sun protection and a light layer accessible for the High Atlas journey tomorrow, and confirm the morning departure time with your driver-guide.
Approx. distance: 5–10 km, depending on your accommodation
Approx. driving time: 20–30 minutes for the airport transfer, subject to traffic
Overnight: Marrakech hotel or riad
Meals: No meals included
Day 2: Marrakech ⇢ High Atlas Mountains ⇢ Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah ⇢ Ouarzazate ⇢ Dades Valley
After breakfast, leave Marrakech for the High Atlas Mountains. The road climbs toward Tizi n’Tichka before descending into the valleys of southern Morocco. Your private driver-guide allows for comfort breaks and photo stops along the agreed route, with the day planned around reaching Dades for the evening.
Explore Ait Ben Haddou on foot. Often called Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, it is a fortified ksar of earthen buildings, narrow lanes and hillside viewpoints. Continue through Ouarzazate; an optional Atlas Film Studios visit can be arranged at additional cost, time permitting. Entrance fees and a separate monument guide are not included.
The afternoon route passes Skoura and the Valley of Roses / Kelaat M’Gouna before reaching the Dades Valley. Ask about a viewpoint stop at the Monkey Fingers formations if your hotel approach and timing allow. Dinner and your en-suite room are included, giving you a valley overnight before the next day’s journey to the dunes.
Approx. distance: 350 km
Approx. driving time: 6–7 hours, excluding sightseeing, meals and breaks
Overnight: Dades Valley hotel or riad
Meals: Breakfast and dinner
Day 3: Dades Valley ⇢ Todra Canyon ⇢ Merzouga Desert
Leave Dades after breakfast and travel through Tinghir toward Todra Gorge, also known as Todra Canyon. Take a short walk beside the canyon walls, with the walking distance adapted to your comfort and the day’s timing. The road then continues east across the dry plateaus toward Merzouga.
At Erg Chebbi, meet the camel team for your camel trek planned around sunset. The ride takes approximately one hour each way, depending on camp location and dune conditions. A 4×4 camp transfer is included when arranged instead of camel riding. Arrival time and weather determine the schedule; sunset itself is not guaranteed.
Your desert camp night is in a private en-suite tent with hot showers and AC/heating. Luggage is transferred to and from the camp. After dinner, there may be music and drumming when conditions and camp arrangements allow. You have one night at Erg Chebbi on this route; there is no separate full-day Merzouga 4×4 excursion.
Approx. distance: 275 km
Approx. driving time: 4–5 hours, excluding sightseeing, meals, breaks and the camp transfer
Overnight: Merzouga desert camp
Meals: Breakfast and dinner
Day 4: Merzouga Desert ⇢ Agdez ⇢ High Atlas Mountains ⇢ Marrakech
Watch the sunrise over Erg Chebbi before breakfast at camp if you wish. Your driver-guide then begins the return journey toward Marrakech. This is the longest travel day, so the departure and stops are planned to keep the onward journey practical.
Travel through the Rissani area and continue via Alnif and Nkob toward the Draa Valley and Agdez. Palm groves and earthen villages mark a different route from the outward journey through Dades and Todra. There is time for agreed comfort stops and lunch, but this is a transfer day rather than a full sightseeing circuit around Merzouga.
Continue toward Ouarzazate and cross the High Atlas to Marrakech, arriving in the evening. Drop-off is at your hotel, riad or the nearest vehicle-accessible point to your accommodation. Your fourth night is already arranged in Marrakech, leaving the city visit for tomorrow. Avoid a flight or other fixed connection on this evening.
Approx. distance: About 560 km
Approx. driving time: 9–10 hours, excluding meals, breaks and camp departure
Overnight: Marrakech hotel or riad
Meals: Breakfast
Day 5: Explore Marrakech ⇢ End of Services
After breakfast, meet your licensed local guide for a Marrakech medina visit. Discuss your priorities before departure: a practical route can combine the Koutoubia exterior and gardens, Bahia Palace or Ben Youssef Madrasa, the souks and Jemaa el-Fna. Opening hours, walking pace and your onward travel time determine the final sequence. Monument entrance fees are separate.
For Majorelle Garden and the YSL Museum, book tickets online in advance through the official ticket channel and share your time slots with our team. These visits need to be coordinated with the medina tour and your flight; they are not automatically included in the guided route or admission price.
Services end after the agreed Marrakech visit. A same-day Marrakech airport transfer can be timed around your flight when confirmed in the booking. Choose a late departure if you want time for the guided visit, or request an additional city night. An early flight shortens or replaces the sightseeing; it does not add an extra tour day.
Approx. distance: Local sightseeing; approximately 5–15 km if airport transfer is required
Approx. driving time: Around 3–4 hours of guided city sightseeing; 30–60 minutes of local driving if required
Overnight: No overnight stay included
Meals: Breakfast

Marrakech Itinerary: 5 Days or 7?
Five days works for an arrival night, a three-day Merzouga circuit and a final city visit. Seven days gives you a full Marrakech sightseeing day earlier in the trip, a Merzouga hotel night and a dedicated desert exploration day. The main return drive remains long.
| Your priority | 5 days · this tour | 7 days |
|---|---|---|
| Nights included | 4 nights | 6 nights |
| Sahara stays | One camp night | Merzouga hotel or riad, then camp |
| Merzouga 4×4 day | No full exploration day | Dedicated exploration day |

Planning Your 5-Day Trip to Marrakech and Merzouga
Make day five work with your flight. Return from the Sahara on day four, sleep in Marrakech, then take the guided visit. A late day-five flight leaves more time for sightseeing. Share your flight details before booking; an early departure can mean replacing the visit with the airport transfer.
Prepare for the long return. Day four is about 560 km with 9–10 hours of driving before breaks. If this is too much for your party, request an additional night along the route and a revised quote.
Bring layers and walking shoes. Marrakech, the High Atlas and Merzouga have different temperatures. Use sun protection during the day and carry a warmer layer for mountain stops and desert evenings.
Book garden tickets ahead. Reserve Majorelle Garden and YSL Museum tickets online in advance through the official ticket channel. Coordinate the time slots with your guide and onward travel. Admission is separate from the package.
Choose your camp transfer. A camel trek is part of the experience, and an included 4×4 alternative can be arranged. Luggage transfer to and from camp is included. Keep medication and essentials with you.
Questions about Your 5-Day Marrakech Itinerary
Is 5 days enough for Marrakech and the Sahara Desert?
Yes, if you want a focused Marrakech and Merzouga itinerary and are comfortable with long drives. This package includes an arrival day, three days traveling to the Sahara and back, and a guided Marrakech visit on day five. Day four is a long return drive. Choose seven or eight days if you want another desert night, a full 4×4 exploration day or a more gradual return.
How much does this 5-day Marrakech itinerary cost for two travelers?
Request a private quote for two travelers with your dates and preferred accommodation category. The team confirms the per-person price and complete party total for all four nights, transport and included services before you pay a deposit. Rates depend on dates, room arrangements, accommodation category and group size; there is no published fixed price for this package.
Is this a private or shared Marrakech tour?
This is a private tour: your vehicle and driver-guide are reserved for your booking. Your rooms and desert camp tent are private, while hotels and camps may host other guests. You do not join a shared departure, and the group-size choices refer to the people in your own party.
What is included in the Marrakech and Sahara tour package?
The package includes arrival pickup in Marrakech, private transport and driver-guide for the route, four overnight stays, four breakfasts, two dinners in itinerary order at Dades and the desert camp, a camel trek or alternative 4×4 camp transfer, luggage transfer to and from camp, sandboards at camp and the guided Marrakech visit. A same-day airport transfer on day five is included when agreed in your booking. Flights, lunches, drinks, Marrakech dinners, entrance fees, extra activities, tips and insurance are excluded.
How much driving is involved on the desert journey?
Day two from Marrakech to Dades is approximately 350 km and 6–7 hours of driving. Day three from Dades to Merzouga is about 275 km and 4–5 hours. Day four from Merzouga to Marrakech via Agdez is about 560 km and 9–10 hours. These estimates exclude sightseeing, meals, breaks and camp transfers. The three main road stages total about 1,185 km, plus local and airport travel.
Does this trip visit Merzouga, Zagora or Agafay?
This tour visits the Erg Chebbi sand dunes beside Merzouga. It does not visit Zagora or Agafay. Agafay is a rocky desert area much closer to Marrakech, suited to a shorter excursion; it is not a substitute for the large Sahara dunes. The Merzouga round trip takes three of the five days in this package.
How long is the camel trek, and can I take a 4×4 instead?
The camel ride takes approximately one hour each way, depending on camp location and dune conditions. The outward trek is planned around sunset, subject to arrival time and weather. You can arrange the included 4×4 camp transfer instead of riding. Tell us before departure, and confirm the morning return arrangement with the camp team. Luggage is transferred to and from the desert camp.
Does the desert camp tent have air conditioning and a private bathroom?
All accommodations, including the desert camp, have private en-suite bathrooms, hot showers and AC/heating. Your booking includes a private room or tent for your party’s agreed room arrangement. Tell us about any essential comfort or accessibility requirements so the team can check the proposed rooms before you confirm.
Where do we stay during the four nights?
Nights one and four are in Marrakech, night two is in the Dades Valley and night three is at a Merzouga desert camp. Standard Comfort, Mid-Range and Premium options are listed in the accommodation section. The properties, bed arrangements and category are confirmed in your written quote, subject to availability.
Which vehicle will we use?
Vehicle choice depends on group size and availability. For 2–3 travelers, we generally use a 4×4 such as a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado TX. Groups of 4–8 generally travel in a Mercedes Vito or Ford Tourneo minivan, and larger parties use a minibus. A 4×4 camp transfer is separate from the main road vehicle when needed. Confirm child seats, luggage space and any access requirements before booking.
Can I book this Marrakech itinerary as a solo traveler?
Yes. A solo traveler can book the whole itinerary privately. Ask for a solo quote, including the room and tent arrangement you prefer. The vehicle and driver-guide are reserved for your booking, so a solo per-person rate will normally be higher than the rate for a couple sharing the same services.
Is the tour suitable for families and travelers with mobility needs?
The itinerary can suit families who are comfortable with substantial driving, especially the return from Merzouga. Medinas, Ait Ben Haddou and the camp involve uneven ground, steps or sand. Tell us children’s ages and any mobility needs before booking so we can check child seats, suitable rooms and walking arrangements. A 4×4 can replace camel riding, but it does not make every stop step-free.
When is the best time for a 5-day Marrakech desert tour?
Spring and autumn generally offer a useful balance for Marrakech, the High Atlas and Merzouga. Summer afternoons can be very hot in the Sahara, while winter brings cold desert evenings and possible snow on mountain roads. The team plans departure times and stops around the season, with the route subject to weather and road conditions.
What should I wear in Marrakech and the Sahara?
Choose loose, breathable clothing, comfortable closed walking shoes, sunglasses and a sun hat. Long trousers are useful for the camel trek, and a light scarf helps with sun or wind. Clothing covering shoulders and knees is a considerate choice in towns and villages. Bring a warmer layer for the Atlas and desert evenings, especially in winter.
What should I pack for the desert camp night?
Bring a small overnight bag, toiletries, personal medication, a warm layer, sun protection, a phone charger or power bank and some Moroccan dirhams for personal expenses. Luggage transfer to and from camp is included, so your main bag can travel with the transfer. Keep valuables, medication and essentials with you during the camel trek.
Can I fly home on day five after exploring Marrakech?
A late flight can work because you return to Marrakech on day four and sleep there before the city visit. Share your flight details before booking so the guided route and airport transfer can be planned with enough time. An early departure may replace the city visit. Do not plan to fly out on the evening of day four after the long desert drive.
Are Majorelle Garden and YSL Museum tickets included?
No. Garden, museum and monument entrance fees are separate. Book Majorelle Garden and YSL Museum tickets online in advance through the official ticket channel, then share your time slots with our team. We will check how they fit with the guided medina visit and your day-five departure; the standard route does not guarantee time for every attraction.
How do I book or customize this five-day tour?
Send your dates, number of travelers, flight details and preferred accommodation category. Our team will confirm the route, named stays and complete price in writing before you reserve. Extra nights or activities need a revised quote. Please review our cancellation policy before paying a deposit; your quote sets out the deposit and balance-payment arrangements.
