6 Days in Morocco Itinerary

This 6-day itinerary balances culture and desert travel by keeping two nights in Fes and one night in the Sahara, then finishing with a direct southern route to Marrakech.

Your journey begins in Casablanca, with pickup from your hotel or accommodation, or directly from Mohammed V International Airport if your arrival schedule allows. If time permits, start with a visit to the impressive Hassan II Mosque, dramatically positioned beside the Atlantic Ocean, before leaving Casablanca and travelling north toward Morocco’s capital.

In Rabat, discover some of the city’s most important landmarks, including the Hassan Tower, Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and Kasbah of the Oudayas. Enjoy time to walk through the kasbah’s white-and-blue lanes and take in views over the Bouregreg River before continuing your journey north through the increasingly green landscapes of the Rif region.

By late afternoon or early evening, arrive in Chefchaouen, nestled beneath the Rif Mountains. Check into your riad and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure, perhaps wandering through the blue-painted medina, relaxing around Plaza Uta el-Hammam, or simply enjoying your first evening in one of Morocco’s most distinctive towns.

Approx. distance: 340–350 km

Approx. driving time: 5½–6 hours excluding Casablanca and Rabat sightseeing, lunch, and breaks

After breakfast, enjoy a final glimpse of Chefchaouen before leaving the Rif Mountains and travelling south toward Volubilis. Explore Morocco’s best-preserved Roman archaeological site, where ancient columns, triumphal arches, residential ruins, and detailed mosaic floors offer a fascinating window into the region’s Roman past.

Continue to Meknes, one of Morocco’s four imperial cities. Spend time around the historic center, see some of its monumental gates and traditional neighborhoods, and enjoy lunch before continuing toward Fes. The combination of Volubilis and Meknes gives the day a rich historical character without taking away from your evening in Fes.

Arrive in Fes later in the afternoon and check into your hotel or riad. The evening is left free so you can relax and settle into the city before the following day’s full guided exploration of its historic medina.

Approx. distance: 250–260 km

Approx. driving time: 4½–5 hours excluding Volubilis, Meknes, lunch, and sightseeing

After breakfast, meet your licensed local guide for a full day discovering Fes, one of Morocco’s oldest and most culturally important imperial cities. Begin with highlights outside the pedestrian medina, which may include the Royal Palace gates, the historic Mellah, and panoramic viewpoints overlooking the old city.

Enter UNESCO-listed Fes el-Bali and follow your guide through a maze of narrow streets filled with traditional markets, workshops, fountains, madrasas, and centuries-old architecture. Highlights can include Al-Attarine Madrasa, Nejjarine Square, the Al-Qarawiyyin area, and the Chouara Tanneries, while your guide introduces you to traditional crafts such as leatherwork, ceramics, weaving, woodcarving, and metalwork.

The tour is arranged at a comfortable pace, with time for lunch, photography, shopping, and places that particularly interest you. In the late afternoon, return to your accommodation and enjoy a second evening in Fes at leisure.

Approx. touring time: 6–7 hours, with flexibility for lunch and breaks

Main activity: full-day guided Fes medina tour

Leave Fes after breakfast and climb into the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping first in Ifrane, known for its cool climate, landscaped streets, and alpine-inspired architecture. Continue toward the cedar forests near Azrou, where Barbary macaques are often seen among the trees, before crossing the broad mountain plateaus toward Midelt.

After lunch around Midelt, continue south as the scenery gradually changes from forested highlands to rugged valleys and semi-desert terrain. As the road descends toward the Tafilalet region, pause at a panoramic viewpoint above the Ziz Valley, where thousands of date palms stretch through the oasis between rocky cliffs and traditional villages.

By late afternoon, the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi rise into view as you approach Merzouga. Meet your camel caravan for a sunset ride across the dunes, or travel to the camp by 4×4 if you prefer not to ride. After settling into your private en-suite tent, enjoy dinner and traditional music around the fire beneath the Sahara sky.

Approx. distance: 470 km

Approx. driving time: 7–8 hours excluding sightseeing stops, lunch, and comfort breaks

Wake early if you would like to experience sunrise over Erg Chebbi before breakfast at the desert camp. After leaving Merzouga, travel toward Rissani, a historic trading center closely linked to the old Saharan caravan routes. If this day falls on a Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday, you can stop during one of Rissani’s traditional market days, when people from surrounding desert communities gather to trade produce, spices, household goods, livestock, and regional products.

Continue west toward Tinghir, where the arid landscape suddenly opens into a broad oasis of palms and cultivated gardens. From here, continue into Todra Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs rise above the narrow canyon. Enjoy time to walk through the gorge, take photographs, and stop for lunch before resuming the journey toward Dades.

The afternoon route leads through Amazigh villages, cultivated valleys, dramatic rock formations, and rugged mountain scenery before reaching the Dades Valley. Stop at selected viewpoints along the way, then settle into your hotel or riad for a relaxed evening and dinner.

Approx. distance: 275 km

Approx. driving time: 4–5 hours excluding sightseeing stops, lunch, the Rissani market visit when applicable, and breaks

After breakfast, leave the Dades Valley and travel west through southern Morocco toward Ouarzazate, passing old kasbahs, villages, and open desert landscapes. If you are interested in cinema, an optional visit to Atlas Film Studios can be arranged before continuing toward Ait Ben Haddou.

Explore Ait Ben Haddou, the UNESCO-listed fortified ksar built from traditional earth and clay. Walk through its narrow passageways and climb toward the higher sections for panoramic views across the valley. The ksar has appeared in major productions including Gladiator, The Mummy, Kingdom of Heaven, and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, making it one of Morocco’s most recognizable historic filming locations.

After the visit, continue across the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with panoramic stops along the winding mountain road when time allows. Descend toward Marrakech in the late afternoon or evening, where your driver will drop you at your hotel, riad, or the nearest vehicle-accessible point inside the medina.

Approx. distance: 320–350 km

Approx. driving time: 6–7 hours excluding sightseeing stops, lunch, the optional Atlas Studios visit, and comfort breaks

Accommodation Options

If a listed property is unavailable for your dates, we will propose a comparable hotel or riad in the same destination and category before confirming your booking.

Why Complete Morocco for a Private Morocco Itinerary 6 Days?

The route is operated as a private 6-day Morocco tour, so your vehicle and driver-guide are dedicated to your booking from Casablanca to Marrakech.

We keep two nights in Fes rather than forcing the medina into a transfer day. That gives you a full guided cultural day before the route turns toward the Sahara.

The overnight sequence is designed around the geography of the trip: Chefchaouen, Fes, Fes, Merzouga and Dades Valley. Each stop supports the next day’s route without unnecessary backtracking.

The desert experience includes a sunset camel ride and camp night near Erg Chebbi, with a 4×4 transfer available if you prefer not to ride.

Accommodation is offered in Standard Comfort, Mid-Range and Premium categories so you can match the tour to your preferred comfort level.

If you need more time around Merzouga or a slower southern route, we will point you toward a longer Morocco itinerary rather than forcing extra sightseeing into this six-day schedule.

Know Before You Go

This is a compact itinerary from Casablanca to Marrakech. Day 1 and Day 4 are the longest travel days, so early departures help protect sightseeing time.

Chefchaouen is included as an overnight stop, but there is no separate free day there. The 7-day itinerary is better if you want a slower northern section.

Day 3 is reserved for Fes with a local guide, giving you more medina time than the 5-day route.

The Merzouga stay includes one desert-camp night. It does not include the full 4×4 exploration with Khamlia, Mifis mines, a nomad-family visit and the seasonal lake.

The camel ride duration varies by camp location and desert conditions. A 4×4 transfer is available instead.

Review our cancellation policy before paying your deposit, or contact us if you are deciding between the 5-, 6- and 7-day routes.

Frequently Asked Questions About This 6 Day Morocco Itinerary

Yes, when your arrival or pickup time allows. We try to include Hassan II Mosque before leaving Casablanca for Rabat. Interior access depends on scheduled visiting hours, and the entrance ticket is not included.

Yes. You spend the first night in Chefchaouen after traveling from Casablanca through Rabat, giving you time to explore the blue medina before continuing to Volubilis, Meknes and Fes the following day.

Yes. Day 3 is a dedicated full-day guided tour of Fes with a licensed local guide, focusing on the medina, historic quarters, artisan areas and major cultural landmarks.

The Fes to Merzouga journey is the longest driving day and usually takes around 7 to 8 hours of actual driving, excluding lunch, comfort breaks and sightseeing stops in places such as Ifrane, the cedar forest and Ziz Valley.

The camel ride is timed around sunset, but the exact duration varies according to the desert camp location, dune conditions and operational routing. We do not promise a fixed ride time. A 4×4 transfer can be arranged instead.

No. This itinerary includes one Merzouga night, so it does not include the full 4×4 exploration with Khamlia, the Mifis mines, a nomad-family visit and the seasonal lake. A longer itinerary is better if you want a full day around Merzouga.

The five overnight stays are one night in Chefchaouen, two nights in Fes, one night at a Merzouga desert camp and one night in Dades Valley. Standard Comfort, Mid-Range and Premium categories are available, subject to availability.

Breakfast is included at all five overnight accommodations. Dinner is included at the Merzouga desert camp and at the Dades Valley accommodation. Lunches, drinks and other dinners are not included.

Bring comfortable shoes, sun protection, sunglasses, a small overnight bag, a warm layer for the evening and any personal medication. Temperatures can change quickly between day and night in the Sahara.

Yes. Because this is a private Morocco tour, some sightseeing, accommodation and pickup details can be customized. Major changes may require adding time because the six-day route already covers a large distance.

The 6-day route gives you more time for northern Morocco and includes a full guided day in Fes. The 5-day itinerary is shorter and more compressed, so it is better only when you have one less day available.

The 7-day itinerary adds an overnight in Rabat and keeps more separation between the northern cities and the Sahara. The 6-day version is more compact while still preserving Chefchaouen and a full Fes guided day.

This route is operated as a private tour with a dedicated driver-guide, hand-picked accommodation categories and clear day-by-day routing. We confirm the vehicle, overnight stays and Fes guide before finalizing the booking so you know exactly how the six days are structured.

If you are comparing this 6-day route with other Morocco itineraries, the main differences are pace, time in Chefchaouen and Fes, the number of Sahara nights and where the tour starts.

  • Morocco Itinerary 8 Days — Best if you want an additional overnight in Skoura, creating a slower southern section before Marrakech.
  • Morocco Itinerary 10 Days — Better if you want two nights around Merzouga and a full 4×4 desert exploration day rather than a single Sahara night.

  • 4-Day Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour — Best if you are already in Fes and do not need Casablanca, Rabat or Chefchaouen. It gives more of the available time to the Sahara and southern Morocco.
  • 3-Day Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour — Best for travelers starting in Fes who need the shortest practical desert route to Marrakech.
