A PRIVATE JOURNEY ACROSS MOROCCO

Five days in Morocco: the Blue City, Fes and a Sahara night

This private 5-day Morocco itinerary connects Casablanca and Marrakech through Chefchaouen, Fes and Merzouga. It is designed for travelers who want northern Morocco and a Sahara camp experience in the same short trip and are comfortable moving to a different overnight stop each day.

Begin with an evening in Chefchaouen, then head to Fes for an afternoon with a licensed local guide. Cross the Middle Atlas and Ziz Valley to Erg Chebbi, where a camel trek and a private en-suite camp tent await. Todra Gorge, Dades Valley and Ait Ben Haddou complete the journey before your High Atlas crossing to Marrakech.

THE JOURNEY, DAY BY DAY

Your 5-day Casablanca to Marrakech itinerary

Four overnight stops: Chefchaouen, Fes, Merzouga camp and Dades Valley. Driving estimates exclude lunch, sightseeing and breaks. Day 2’s guided visit follows the drive to Fes; Day 3 is the longest road day.

Day 1: Casablanca ⇢ Rif Mountains ⇢ Chefchaouen

Your private Morocco journey begins with pickup from your hotel or accommodation in Casablanca. Pickup at Mohammed V International Airport can be arranged only when your arrival time fits the driving schedule. Share your flight details before booking; arriving the previous day gives you more certainty and time to rest. Leaving Casablanca behind, travel north through the changing countryside toward the Rif Mountains, with comfortable stops for coffee, lunch, and photographs whenever needed.

As you approach northern Morocco, the scenery becomes greener and more mountainous, with rolling farmland and small towns gradually giving way to the foothills of the Rif. The journey is deliberately kept straightforward on your arrival day, without unnecessary sightseeing detours, allowing you to settle into the rhythm of the trip and reach Chefchaouen with breaks along the way.

Depending on pickup time and road conditions, arrive in Chefchaouen in the afternoon or evening and check into your riad. The remainder of the day is free to begin discovering the blue-painted medina, wander around Plaza Uta el-Hammam, or simply relax after the journey. Chefchaouen is especially atmospheric toward sunset, when the surrounding mountains and blue streets take on softer colors.

Night 1: Chefchaouen riad or hotel. Breakfast included; dinner separate.

Approx. distance: 340 km

Approx. driving time: 5–5½ hours excluding lunch and comfort breaks

Day 2: Chefchaouen ⇢ Fes ⇢ Guided Tour of Fes

After breakfast, enjoy a final look at Chefchaouen before leaving the Rif Mountains and travelling south toward Fes. The drive takes you through the countryside of northern Morocco, giving you time to relax before arriving in the country’s spiritual and cultural capital around midday or early afternoon, depending on departure and stops.

After arrival, meet your licensed local guide for a private exploration of historic Fes. Enter the UNESCO-listed Fes el-Bali medina, where centuries-old lanes lead through traditional souks, artisan quarters, madrasas, fountains, and historic neighborhoods. Highlights can include the Royal Palace gates, the Mellah, the Al-Qarawiyyin area, Nejjarine Square, and the famous Chouara Tanneries, with your guide adapting the visit to your interests and pace.

The afternoon gives you a rewarding introduction to the city’s history and craftsmanship with the sights selected to fit the remaining afternoon. After the guided visit, your driver will take you to your riad or hotel, leaving the evening free to enjoy Fes independently and prepare for the journey toward the Sahara the following morning.

Night 2: Fes riad or hotel. Breakfast included; dinner separate.

Approx. distance: 200 km

Approx. driving time: 3½–4 hours excluding the guided Fes visit, lunch, and breaks

Day 3: Fes ⇢ Ifrane ⇢ Cedar Forest ⇢ Midelt ⇢ Ziz Valley ⇢ Merzouga Desert

Leave Fes after breakfast and climb into the Middle Atlas Mountains, beginning with a stop in Ifrane, known for its cool climate, landscaped streets, and distinctive alpine-inspired architecture. Continue toward the cedar forests near Azrou, where you may see Barbary macaques among the trees; sightings are not guaranteed and wildlife should not be fed, before travelling across the elevated plateaus toward Midelt.

After a lunch break around Midelt, continue south through increasingly dramatic mountain scenery. The road eventually descends toward the Tafilalet region and the spectacular Ziz Valley, where a panoramic stop provides sweeping views over thousands of date palms, traditional villages, and cultivated plots following the river far below.

By late afternoon, the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi begin to appear as you approach Merzouga. Your camel trek is planned around sunset, with timing adjusted to arrival, season and conditions. Continue into the dunes toward your desert camp. Guests who prefer not to ride can reach the camp by 4×4 instead. After settling into your private en-suite tent, enjoy dinner and traditional music around the campfire beneath the Sahara sky.

Night 3: Merzouga desert camp. Private en-suite tent, dinner and breakfast included.

Approx. distance: 470 km

Approx. driving time: 7–8 hours excluding sightseeing stops, lunch, and comfort breaks

Day 4: Merzouga Desert ⇢ Erfoud ⇢ Todra Gorge ⇢ Tinghir ⇢ Dades Valley

If timing and conditions allow, wake early to experience sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes before breakfast. After leaving Merzouga, travel toward Erfoud, a desert town known for the fossil-rich stone found throughout the surrounding region and for its location between the Sahara and the oasis valleys farther west.

Continue toward Tinghir, where the scenery changes noticeably as a vast palm oasis stretches beneath the mountains. A short drive from town brings you into Todra Gorge, where immense limestone walls tower above the narrow canyon. Take time to walk through the gorge, enjoy the cooler surroundings, and photograph one of southern Morocco’s most dramatic natural landscapes.

In the afternoon, continue toward the Dades Valley, passing cultivated fields, Amazigh villages, rocky cliffs, and unusual geological formations. Scenic stops can be made as you enter the valley before arriving at your hotel or riad, where you can relax and enjoy dinner after a more leisurely day on the road.

Night 4: Dades Valley hotel or riad. Dinner and breakfast included.

Approx. distance: 270 km

Approx. driving time: 4–5 hours excluding Todra Gorge, lunch, sightseeing stops, and breaks

Day 5: Dades Valley ⇢ Skoura ⇢ Ouarzazate ⇢ Ait Ben Haddou ⇢ High Atlas Mountains ⇢ Marrakech

After breakfast, leave the Dades Valley and travel west through the landscapes of southern Morocco toward Skoura, an oasis of palm groves, old kasbahs, and agricultural villages. Continue to Ouarzazate, Morocco’s best-known filmmaking center, where an optional visit to Atlas Film Studios can be arranged at additional cost if timing and your interests allow.

The main cultural stop of the day is Ait Ben Haddou, the UNESCO-listed fortified ksar built from traditional earth and clay. Explore its narrow lanes and climb through the old village for views across the surrounding valley.

After your visit, continue into the High Atlas Mountains and cross the Tizi n’Tichka Pass on the final journey toward Marrakech. The road winds through dramatic valleys and mountain villages, with panoramic stops when time allows, before descending toward the Marrakech plains. Your tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel, riad, or the nearest vehicle-accessible point in the medina in the evening.

Finish: Marrakech hotel, riad or nearest accessible point. Accommodation tonight is not included.

Approx. distance: 320–350 km

Approx. driving time: 6–7 hours excluding sightseeing stops, lunch, the optional Atlas Studios visit, and comfort breaks

Practical details for five days in Morocco

This is a fast-paced itinerary. Five days in Morocco is enough to connect Casablanca, Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara and Marrakech, but several days involve substantial driving.

The Fes tour is an afternoon guided visit. Day 2 begins in Chefchaouen, so the guided Fes visit focuses on the most important medina sights that fit the remaining time.

The camel trek is optional. A 4×4 transfer to the desert camp can be arranged instead, and your main luggage is transported separately.

There is no full Merzouga 4×4 exploration day. Khamlia, the Mifis mines, a nomad family visit and the seasonal lake require a longer itinerary with an additional day around Merzouga.

Pack for several climates. The route crosses the Rif Mountains, Middle Atlas, Sahara Desert and High Atlas Mountains, so temperatures can change considerably during the trip.

Entrance fees are separate. Carrying some Moroccan dirhams is useful for entrance fees where applicable, lunches, drinks and small personal expenses.

Pickup can be adapted within Casablanca. Hotel pickup is standard; airport pickup can be checked when your flight arrival time fits the Day 1 driving schedule.

Review the booking terms before paying your deposit. See the Complete Morocco cancellation policy or contact us if you have a question about your dates.

Plan flights around the road journey

Arriving in Casablanca the day before departure is the simpler option. If you want airport pickup on Day 1, let us confirm the feasibility from your flight details before booking. The final day has around 6–7 driving hours plus visits and breaks: stay in Marrakech that night and avoid a tightly timed onward connection.

Tell us children’s ages, dietary needs, room preferences and mobility requirements. Medina lanes, kasbah steps and dunes can be uneven; the private vehicle cannot reach every riad entrance.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE

Questions about your 5-day Morocco itinerary

Is 5 days in Morocco enough for Casablanca, Chefchaouen, Fes and the Sahara?

Five days is enough for a fast-paced private route linking Casablanca, Chefchaouen, Fes, Merzouga and Marrakech. This itinerary is designed for travelers who want both northern Morocco and a Sahara desert experience in a limited time, so several days include substantial driving.

What is the route for this Morocco itinerary 5 days tour?

Day 1 travels from Casablanca to Chefchaouen. Day 2 continues to Fes for a guided afternoon tour. Day 3 travels through Ifrane, the cedar forest, Midelt and the Ziz Valley to Merzouga for a camel trek planned around sunset and a desert camp stay. Day 4 continues through Erfoud, Todra Gorge and Tinghir to Dades Valley. Day 5 travels through Skoura, Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou before crossing the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakech.

How much does this private 5 day Morocco tour cost?

Indicative private rates range from €559 to €1,749 per person depending on group size. For two travelers, the indicative rate is €875 per person. Travel dates, accommodation category and availability can affect the final confirmed price.

Does the 5 day Morocco itinerary include Chefchaouen?

Yes. The first night is in Chefchaouen. After pickup in Casablanca, the tour travels north to the Blue City, with free time to explore depending on your arrival before continuing to Fes the following morning.

Is a guided tour of Fes included?

Yes. Day 2 includes a licensed local guide for an afternoon tour of Fes after the drive from Chefchaouen. The exact sequence can vary, but the visit focuses on the historic medina and major cultural landmarks that fit the available time.

Does this 5 day itinerary in Morocco include the Sahara Desert?

Yes. Day 3 reaches Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes. The tour includes a sunset camel trek or optional 4×4 transfer to the desert camp, dinner, breakfast and one night in a private en-suite tent.

Does this tour include a full Merzouga 4×4 desert excursion?

No. This Casablanca to Marrakech route has only one Merzouga night, so it does not include the full 4×4 exploration with Khamlia, the Mifis mines, a nomad family and the seasonal lake. Travelers who want that experience should choose a longer desert itinerary.

What accommodation is included during the five days in Morocco?

The standard route includes one night in Chefchaouen, one night in Fes, one night at a Merzouga desert camp and one night in Dades Valley. Standard Comfort, Mid-Range and Premium accommodation categories are available, subject to availability.

What type of vehicle is used?

Private transportation is matched to group size. Smaller groups generally use a private 4×4, medium-sized groups travel by minivan, and larger bookings use a minibus. The vehicle and driver-guide remain dedicated to your booking.

Is the camel trek optional?

Yes. The sunset camel trek is included, but travelers who prefer not to ride can reach the Merzouga desert camp by 4×4. Your main luggage is transferred separately.

How much driving is involved in this 5 day Morocco itinerary?

Day 1 is approximately 5–5½ hours of driving, Day 2 around 3½–4 hours before the guided Fes tour, Day 3 around 7–8 hours, Day 4 around 4–5 hours and Day 5 around 6–7 hours. These estimates exclude sightseeing, lunch and comfort stops.

What is the best time of year for a 5 day trip to Morocco?

Spring and autumn generally provide comfortable conditions across the cities, mountains and Sahara. Winter can bring cold desert nights and cooler mountain weather, while summer temperatures around Merzouga can be very high.

Can this Morocco 5 day itinerary be customized?

Some adjustments are possible because this is a private tour, provided they remain realistic within the distances involved. Major route changes can affect driving times, accommodation and price.

How do I book this 5 day Morocco tour?

Send your travel dates, number of travelers and preferred accommodation category through the booking form. We will check private transportation, the four overnight stays and the Fes guide before confirming the itinerary and final price. Once you approve the details, the required deposit secures the booking.

What does the lowest price apply to?

The €559 per-person rate applies to a private party of 10 or more. For two travelers, the indicative rate is €875 each. These bands refer to your own booking, not seats on a shared tour. Dates, accommodation and room arrangements determine the confirmed quote.

Are Casablanca and Marrakech city tours included?

No. Casablanca is the pickup city and Marrakech is the drop-off city. This itinerary does not include a dedicated city tour in either. Ask about extra nights and guided visits if you want time to explore them.

Can I start straight from Casablanca airport?

Possibly, if your flight arrival allows enough time for the drive to Chefchaouen. Send the flight details before booking so we can check the schedule. Arriving the previous day provides time to rest and reduces the effect of flight delays on your first tour day.

Is the desert camp exclusive to our group?

Your tent is private, as are your tour vehicle and driver-guide. The camp and hotels may host other guests.

Can I fly out of Marrakech on Day 5?

The tour finishes in the evening after a long drive and sightseeing. Plan to stay in Marrakech that night and avoid a tightly timed flight or train connection. Share any fixed onward travel before booking.

How do payment and cancellation work?

Once the itinerary and quote are approved, the agreed deposit secures your booking. Payments can be arranged by PayPal, bank transfer or Wise. Read your booking terms and our cancellation policy before paying.
