Wake early if you would like to watch sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi. After breakfast, begin a 4×4 excursion around the Merzouga desert. Having a full day here means you can see more than the dune area used for the camel ride and better understand the different landscapes surrounding Merzouga.

The excursion can include a visit with a nomad family living in the desert area and a stop in Khamlia village, known for its Gnawa music traditions. Depending on local and seasonal conditions, the route may also include the seasonal lake near Merzouga and former mining areas. The exact order can change according to conditions on the day.

Later, return to Merzouga and check into your hotel or riad. You have the remainder of the day to relax after the 4×4 excursion. After breakfast, leave the Merzouga desert and travel west toward Erfoud, a gateway town to the Sahara. The road takes you away from the Erg Chebbi dune landscape and through the drier settlements of southeastern Morocco before continuing toward Tinghir.

The main stop of the day is Todra Gorge. Here, you can walk beside the river between high limestone walls before continuing through the palm groves around Tinghir. This part of the 5-day tour shows the transition between the open Sahara and the cultivated valleys farther west.

In the afternoon, continue to Dades Valley. The road passes villages and rock formations before reaching your accommodation for the night. Check into your private en-suite room, with dinner and breakfast included.

After breakfast in Dades Valley, leave the main road and travel toward the Boutaghrar area. Part of today’s route is off-road, taking you through a more isolated landscape to visit a nomad family. The visit offers an opportunity to see a different way of life from the towns and villages encountered elsewhere on the tour.

Continue toward the Rose Valley, an agricultural area known for its rose cultivation. The rose harvest is seasonal, but the valley itself remains part of the route throughout the year. From there, continue toward Skoura and its extensive palm groves.

Before settling in for the night, visit Kasbah Amridil, one of the best-known historic kasbahs in Skoura Oasis. You then continue to your accommodation in Skoura for the fourth and final overnight stay. Dinner and breakfast are included.

After breakfast, leave Skoura Oasis and travel toward Ouarzazate. The city has long been associated with Morocco’s film industry and sits at an important junction between the desert, southern valleys and the High Atlas Mountains.

Continue to Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified ksar recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will have time to explore its earthen buildings on foot before continuing toward the mountains. Ait Ben Haddou was historically positioned along caravan routes connecting the Sahara with Marrakech.

The final section of the Fes to Marrakech 5 days journey crosses the High Atlas Mountains. After the mountain pass, the road descends toward Marrakech. You normally arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon or early evening, depending on traffic and the length of the day’s stops. Drop-off is at your hotel or riad, or the nearest vehicle-accessible point.

However, Ait Ben Haddou, desert terrain and some off-road locations may be difficult for travelers with limited mobility.
