TWO FULL DAYS. ONE DESERT NIGHT.

A Private 2-Day Desert Tour from Fes to Marrakech

This 2-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour connects your next city stay with a night beside the Erg Chebbi dunes. Start in Fes, also spelled Fez, and travel south through Ifrane, the cedar forest near Azrou and Ziz Valley to Merzouga. It is a one-way Sahara desert tour from Fes for travelers who have two full days and want a private camp experience along the way.

Your booking includes your own vehicle and English-speaking driver-guide, Fes pickup and Marrakech drop-off. At camp, you have a private en-suite tent with a hot shower, air conditioning and heating. Dinner, breakfast, a camel trek planned around sunset and luggage transfer to and from the desert camp are included. Choose an included 4x4 camp transfer if you prefer not to ride.

The second day crosses southern Morocco in one long journey, with a short Todra Gorge stop, an Ait Ben Haddou viewpoint and the High Atlas drive. This itinerary gives priority to reaching the Sahara within a two-day travel window. If walking inside Ait Ben Haddou or spending more time in the valleys matters to you, the 3-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour adds a Dades Valley night and divides the onward drive.

THE JOURNEY, DAY BY DAY

Fes to Marrakech in 2 Days: Your Private Itinerary

The route covers approximately 1,030–1,050 km, plus local camp transfers: 470 km from Fes to Merzouga and 560–580 km from Merzouga to Marrakech. Allow two full travel days. The driving estimates exclude sightseeing, meals and breaks, so your time on the road each day will be longer. Pickup and camp-transfer arrangements are confirmed before departure.

Day 1: Fes ⇢ Ifrane ⇢ Azrou ⇢ Midelt ⇢ Ziz Valley ⇢ Merzouga

Your driver-guide meets you at your accommodation in Fes, or at an agreed nearby point if your riad is on a pedestrian street. The early departure gives you a full day to cross the Middle Atlas Mountains and reach the dunes. In Ifrane, take a brief break among the town’s mountain-style buildings before continuing to the cedar forest near Azrou. Barbary macaques may be seen; sightings are not guaranteed. Please observe them from a distance and do not feed them.

Beyond the cedar forest, high plateaus lead toward Midelt, where you can stop for lunch at your own expense. The route then descends toward Ziz Valley, with palm groves and earthen villages below the road. A viewpoint break gives you time for photographs before the journey continues toward Erfoud and Merzouga. Your driver balances these short stops with the time needed to reach the camp.

At Erg Chebbi, join your camel trek, planned around sunset subject to arrival time and conditions. The ride takes approximately one hour each way, depending on the camp location and dunes; an included 4x4 transfer is available instead. Your luggage is transferred separately to the desert camp. Settle into your private tent, freshen up in your en-suite bathroom with a hot shower and enjoy dinner before the evening at camp. Air conditioning and heating are included in all accommodation categories.

Approx. distance: 470 km

Approx. driving time: 7–8 hours, excluding sightseeing, lunch, comfort breaks and camp transfers

Day 2: Merzouga ⇢ Tinghir ⇢ Todra Gorge ⇢ Ait Ben Haddou Viewpoint ⇢ High Atlas ⇢ Marrakech

Watch the sunrise over Erg Chebbi before breakfast at camp if daylight, weather and your agreed departure allow. Return to Merzouga by the arranged camel ride or 4x4 transfer and start the long drive west. Near Tinghir, the palm groves lead toward Todra Gorge, where a short stop allows you to stretch your legs beside the canyon walls. This is a brief walk and photo stop, with the day’s timing kept in view.

Continue through the Valley of Roses / Kelaat M’Gouna toward Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou. The planned visit here is a panoramic viewpoint stop overlooking the UNESCO-listed earthen ksar. Films including Gladiator, The Mummy and Lawrence of Arabia used this setting. A walking visit inside the village and a film-studio visit are not included in this compressed itinerary; a longer tour gives you time to explore beyond the viewpoint.

Cross the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tichka, following the mountain road toward Marrakech. Brief photo and comfort stops are arranged around the road conditions and remaining distance. Your driver-guide drops you at your hotel, riad or the nearest vehicle-accessible point to your accommodation. Arrival is in the evening and may be late, so keep this night in Marrakech free of tightly timed onward travel.

Drop-off in Marrakech. Accommodation on arrival night is not included.

PLAN WITH CONFIDENCE

Planning Your 2-Day Desert Trip from Fes

Allow two full travel days. The 470 km first stage takes about 7–8 hours of driving; the 560–580 km second stage takes about 10–11 hours. Stops and camp transfers add time. An evening or late arrival in Marrakech is normal for this itinerary.

Stay in Fes the night before. Your pickup time is agreed in advance to leave enough time for the camp arrival. Send any proposed same-day flight details before booking so our team can check whether the schedule is workable.

Plan the camel trek around available daylight. The ride is approximately one hour each way, depending on camp location and dune conditions. Sunset is not guaranteed. The return camel ride or 4x4 transfer is arranged around the early departure for Marrakech.

Pack a small overnight bag. Luggage transfer to and from the desert camp is included. Carry comfortable closed shoes, layers, a sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a scarf and your personal essentials; keep medication and valuables with you.

Keep optional activities realistic. Quad biking and dune buggies cost extra and require advance agreement on available time. There is no full Merzouga 4x4 exploration day, so Khamlia, Mifis and seasonal Dayet Srji are not scheduled visits. A detour to the Monkey Fingers formations or a walking visit inside Ait Ben Haddou also requires a longer itinerary.

Budget for meals outside camp. One dinner and one breakfast are included. Lunches, additional beverages, entrance fees where applicable, local monument guides and personal expenses are separate. Tell us your dietary requirements when requesting the quote.

Leave time for Marrakech after your tour

Book your Marrakech accommodation for the arrival night and avoid a tightly timed flight or train. For sightseeing the following day, book Majorelle Garden and Yves Saint Laurent Museum tickets online in advance through the official ticket website. Those visits, tickets and your Marrakech hotel are separate from this two-day tour.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE

Questions about Your 2-Day Fes to Marrakech Tour

Is a 2-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour worth it, or should I choose 3 days?

Choose two days if you want a Merzouga camp night between Fes and Marrakech and are comfortable with two long driving days. It is a two-day, one-night journey of about 1,030–1,050 km, not a day trip. Day 2 alone involves about 10–11 hours of driving before stops. The 3-day tour adds a Dades Valley night and more time at Ait Ben Haddou. Choose four days if you want a full Merzouga exploration day.

How much does the Fes to Marrakech desert tour 2 days cost?

The indicative private rate is €452 per person for two travelers, a total of €904 for your booking. The eight published group-size rates range from €823 for a solo traveler to €199 per person for a private party of 10 or more. The lowest rate is not a two-person price. Your dates, camp category and availability determine the final confirmed quote.

Is this a private or shared Fes to Marrakech tour?

This is a private tour: your vehicle and driver-guide are reserved for your booking. You choose the date and travel with your own party, with stops arranged within the agreed route and available time. Your camp tent is private, while the camp and its dining areas may host other guests. The price bands describe the size of your booking, not a shared departure.

Does the desert camp tent have a private bathroom, hot shower and air conditioning?

Yes. All accommodation we arrange, including the desert camp in every tier, has a private en-suite bathroom, a hot shower, air conditioning and heating. This tour includes one camp night, dinner and breakfast. Your quote confirms the camp, tent category and bed arrangements before you book.

How far is Fes from Merzouga, and how long is the drive to Marrakech?

Day 1 covers about 470 km from Fes to Merzouga, with approximately 7–8 hours of driving. Day 2 covers about 560–580 km from Merzouga to Marrakech via the planned stops, with approximately 10–11 hours of driving. Lunch, sightseeing, comfort breaks and camp transfers are additional. Road conditions and traffic can change arrival times.

Do we visit Todra Gorge and walk inside Ait Ben Haddou?

The planned second day includes a short stop at Todra Gorge for a brief walk and photographs. At Ait Ben Haddou, the stop is at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the ksar. A walking visit inside the village is not included because the onward drive is long. Choose the three-day itinerary if you want time for that visit.

How long is the camel trek, and can I take a 4x4 transfer instead?

The camel ride takes approximately one hour each way, depending on camp location and dune conditions. An included 4x4 transfer is available instead if you prefer not to ride. Tell us before departure. Your return camel ride or 4x4 transfer is agreed around the early start on Day 2, and luggage transfer to and from the desert camp is included.

Will the camel trek take place at sunset?

The camel trek is planned around sunset, subject to arrival time, daylight, weather and road conditions. With shorter winter days, the trek may begin around or just after sunset; tell us if daylight riding is a priority so we can agree feasible arrangements before booking. Any change to the next morning must also allow for the long drive to Marrakech. A sunset view is not guaranteed.

What is included in the price, and what costs extra?

The package includes private transport and an English-speaking driver-guide, Fes pickup, Marrakech drop-off, one en-suite camp night, dinner, breakfast, the planned camel trek or alternative camp transfer, luggage transfer to and from camp and available camp sandboards. Lunches, additional drinks, entrance fees, local monument guides, optional quad or buggy activities, tips and travel insurance are separate. Dietary requirements should be shared before booking.

Where do pickup and drop-off take place?

Pickup is from your Fes hotel or riad on the first morning, or an agreed nearby vehicle-accessible meeting point. We confirm the departure time before the tour. Day 2 ends at your Marrakech accommodation or the nearest vehicle-accessible point to it. Be in Fes the night before, and send any proposed airport pickup or onward travel details before confirming.

Will we travel by 4x4, minivan or minibus?

Your private air-conditioned vehicle is matched to group size and availability. For 2–3 travelers, we generally use a 4x4 such as a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado TX; for 4–8, a Mercedes Vito or Ford Tourneo minivan; and for larger parties, a minibus. The quote confirms the arrangements. A 4x4 camp transfer is separate from the main road vehicle when needed, and a full off-road desert exploration day is not included.

Is this tour suitable for families and travelers with mobility needs?

Tell us children’s ages, seating needs and any mobility requirements before booking. Two long drives, uneven ground and sand at camp need consideration. A 4x4 transfer can replace camel riding, but it does not make every sightseeing stop or camp fully accessible. Our team will check appropriate arrangements; families wanting shorter driving days should consider the three-day route.

What should I pack, and what happens to my luggage?

Bring a small overnight bag, sun protection, sunglasses, a scarf, a charger or power bank and any personal medication. Carry some Moroccan dirhams for lunches and small purchases. Your main luggage travels in the private vehicle and is transferred to and from the desert camp separately from the camel trek. Tell us about large suitcases or special equipment so we can allow enough vehicle space.

What should I wear for the desert and Atlas Mountains?

Wear comfortable clothes for long drives, loose trousers for the camel trek and closed shoes for sand and uneven paths. Bring a light long-sleeved layer and sun hat for daytime, plus a warmer layer for the evening. In winter, pack a warm jacket for cold desert nights and mountain stops. Keep a scarf handy when the wind lifts sand.

What is the best season for this two-day Sahara tour?

Spring and autumn generally offer the most comfortable balance for a Sahara camp trip. Summer afternoons in Merzouga can be very hot, while winter nights and mountain stops can be cold. Shorter winter daylight also affects camel-trek timing. Share your travel dates so our team can plan around seasonal conditions; operations remain subject to road and weather conditions.

Can I fly from Marrakech on the final evening?

We recommend staying in Marrakech that night. Day 2 is a long road journey, and traffic, weather, road conditions or delays at stops can push arrival later into the evening. Do not book a tight flight or train connection based on a fixed arrival time. Share any existing onward booking before paying a deposit.

Can I book this private tour as a solo traveler?

Yes. The indicative solo rate is €823 for the two-day private tour, including your own vehicle and driver-guide and a private en-suite camp tent with dinner and breakfast. The per-person price is higher than for a larger booking because the transport is reserved for you. Dates, camp category and availability affect the final quote.

How do I book, pay and review the cancellation policy?

Send your dates, number of travelers and preferred camp category using the form or WhatsApp. Our team checks availability and confirms your itinerary, camp, tent arrangements, full party total and deposit terms before payment. Payments can be arranged by PayPal, bank transfer or Wise. Please review our cancellation policy before confirming.
