Marrakech Desert Tours
Your Private Route to the Sahara
Cross the High Atlas, stay beside the Erg Chebbi dunes and travel with your own driver-guide. Choose a Merzouga round trip, continue to Fes or Chefchaouen, or combine the desert with a complete Marrakech holiday.
Your group, your dates and a choice of en-suite camps, hotels and riads. Book directly with our registered Moroccan tour operator.

Private Desert Tours from Marrakech, Planned Around You
Your Sahara journey starts with a choice: return to Marrakech after the dunes, continue to Fes, or make the desert part of a longer Morocco holiday. We arrange the vehicle, driver-guide and overnight stays around that route, with pickup from your hotel or riad, or an agreed nearby meeting point where cars can reach.
Travel from Marrakech, the city also known as Marrakesh, through the High Atlas and southern valleys to Merzouga. A private en-suite tent gives you your own space at camp; an additional hotel or riad night gives you time to explore the surrounding desert. Our team is based near Merzouga, so you can discuss the camp, local visits and practical details directly with the people arranging your trip.
Choose your dates and party size, compare the routes below, and tell us the comfort level you want. Your quote will identify the proposed properties, room arrangements, included services and total before you book.

2, 3, 4 or 5 Days: Which Sahara Trip Fits?
The extra day matters most when you know what it adds. On our short Marrakech departures, three days introduces a Dades overnight, four creates a full day around Merzouga, and five adds a Skoura stay. A five-day holiday including airport arrival and Marrakech sightseeing has a different structure from five days devoted to the desert route.
| Duration | Overnight structure | What it gives you | The trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 days | One desert camp night | A brief Sahara visit within a fixed window | Very long drives and limited sightseeing |
| 3 days | Dades + desert camp | A valley stop alongside your dune experience | No dedicated Merzouga exploration day |
| 4 days | Dades + Merzouga hotel/riad + camp | A full private 4×4 day around the dunes | The main transfer days remain long |
| 5 desert days | Skoura + Dades + Merzouga hotel/riad + camp | Oasis accommodation and a more developed southern route | Needs more of your holiday calendar |
For a first visit focused on the dunes, begin by comparing the three-day Marrakech round trip with the four-day Merzouga tour. If Fes is your next stop, compare the equivalent three-day Marrakech to Fes crossing and four-day one-way route.
Return to Marrakech
Choose a round trip when your accommodation, return flight or next plans are in Marrakech. The four-day version gives you more desert time; the five-day version adds Skoura before the Ounila Valley return.
Continue to Fes or Chefchaouen
A one-way journey makes the Sahara part of your transfer north. Fes, also spelled Fez, is the endpoint for the two- to five-day crossings. The Chefchaouen itinerary continues after a guided Fes visit, with your final drop-off agreed in advance.
What You Can See on a Marrakech Sahara Tour
High Atlas & Ait Ben Haddou
The road crosses the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tichka toward Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate. Longer routes allow more time for stops; the two-day tours use a panoramic Ait Ben Haddou viewpoint.
Dades, Todra & the oasis valleys
A night in the Dades Valley divides the journey toward Merzouga. Continue through Tinghir to Todra Gorge. Five-day desert circuits also give Skoura its own overnight.
Merzouga & Erg Chebbi
Merzouga is your gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes. Your camel trek is planned around sunset, subject to arrival and conditions, before an overnight at a desert camp.
What a full Merzouga 4×4 day adds
A camp transfer and a desert exploration day serve different purposes. On the four- and five-day desert routes, the local 4×4 outing allows time for Khamlia, a nomad-family visit subject to availability, and the landscapes beyond the camp. Dayet Srji depends on seasonal conditions, and Mifis can form part of the agreed circuit. Confirm the planned stops when you enquire.
If you want quad biking or a dune buggy, request it as an optional activity with a separate price. A longer itinerary gives more room to arrange it without crowding the camel trek and camp arrival.
Merzouga, Zagora or Agafay?
Choose Merzouga for the Erg Chebbi sand dunes and a multi-day Sahara journey. A Zagora-area itinerary follows a different southern route, so check the actual camp location and landscape. Agafay offers rocky desert scenery near Marrakech and suits a shorter outing; it does not replace the Erg Chebbi dune experience. A same-day desert excursion and a Sahara road trip should be chosen for different reasons.
Desert Camps, Riads & Hotels for Your Journey
A luxury Sahara desert tour from Marrakech should be defined by the actual tent, rooms and service you book. Compare every overnight, from the Dades Valley to your Merzouga riad and desert camp, rather than judging the whole trip from one camp photograph.
The properties below are examples used in our accommodation tiers. Your route, dates and room arrangements determine the final proposal. We confirm each property before you accept the booking; a category name alone is not a reservation.
| Overnight stop | Standard Comfort | Mid-Range | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dades Valley | Riad Luxury Dades | Ksar Sultan Dades | Eden Boutique Hotel & Spa |
| Merzouga hotel or riad | Dar Morocco | Riad Madu | Sahara Pearl Hotel |
| Merzouga desert camp | Dihya Desert Luxury Camp | Tawada Luxury Desert Camp | Tiziri Camp |
| Skoura | Kasbah Ait Ben Damiette | Kasbah des Cypres | L’Ma Lodge |
Your private room or tent
Tell us whether you prefer twin beds, a double room, a family arrangement or a particular camp. En-suite accommodation is part of the proposed stay. If air conditioning, heating, step-free access or a pool matters to you, ask us to confirm those facilities for the exact property and room category.
A hotel night before the camp
On the four- and five-day desert circuits, a Merzouga hotel or riad night lets you arrive from the road, settle in and begin your exploration locally the next morning. The camp is a separate overnight. Your vehicle is private to your booking; hotels and camps may host other guests.
For the five-, seven- and eight-day Marrakech holiday packages, we also quote your city accommodation. Share your preferred riad style, location and budget, and we will include the Marrakech stays alongside the desert properties.
Get my private tour quote →Marrakech Desert Tour Prices & Inclusions
Your private tour price depends on the number of travelers sharing the vehicle, the itinerary, travel dates and accommodation. Open the individual tour page for its published group-size rates, then request the exact total for your party. A lowest “from” price for a large private group is not a couple’s price.
For a useful comparison, ask for the same route, number of nights, bed configuration and services in each quote. Tell us your budget early so we can compare suitable accommodation categories and explain what changes the price.

Compare my private tour options →Planning Your Desert Trip from Marrakech
| Stage | Distance | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Marrakech to Dades | 350 km | 6–7 hours driving |
| Dades to Merzouga | 275 km | 4–5 hours driving |
| Merzouga to Fes | 470 km | 7–8 hours driving |
| Merzouga 4×4 exploration | 50–80 km locally | 4–6 hours for the outing, including visits |
Merzouga is about 560 km from Marrakech by a direct road route; sightseeing circuits can cover more. A return day from the dunes is substantial. Choose the five-day desert round trip or the eight-day Marrakech holiday if you want an additional overnight stage on the way back.
Arrange flights around the route
Share your flight details before confirming pickup or final-day activities. After a long desert transfer, an overnight in the finishing city gives you more room for road delays. On the five-day Marrakech holiday, the final guided visit and any evening airport transfer are timed around your agreed flight.
Reserve Marrakech visits in advance
If you want Majorelle Garden and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum during your city stay, book tickets online in advance through the official ticket office. Share the entry time so we can coordinate it with your Marrakech day.
For the Chefchaouen route, your final drop-off can be Tangier, Casablanca, Fes or Marrakech. The distance differs substantially between those options. Marrakech is the longest return; an extra overnight can be quoted if it makes your onward journey more comfortable.
Questions About Desert Tours from Marrakech
Which Marrakech desert tour is best for a first visit?
Choose three days for a Dades overnight and one Sahara camp night. Choose four if you want a Merzouga hotel or riad night and a full local 4×4 day as well. First decide whether you need to return to Marrakech or finish in Fes, then compare the accommodation. The best route is the one that fits your wider travel plans and driving comfort.
Is a two-day Merzouga tour enough, or should I choose three or four days?
Two days can include a camp night, but both days involve extensive driving and sightseeing is limited. Three days adds a Dades overnight. Four days adds a second night in the Merzouga area and a dedicated exploration day. Extra days add experiences and useful stops; they do not remove the long mountain and intercity drives.
Can I visit the Sahara on a day trip from Marrakech?
Merzouga is about 560 km from Marrakech, so it is not a practical same-day sightseeing trip. The routes on this page include at least one overnight. If you only have an afternoon or evening, compare an Agafay outing near Marrakech, understanding that it is a rocky desert setting rather than the Erg Chebbi sand dunes.
How far will we drive on a Marrakech to Fes desert tour?
The standard route through Dades and Merzouga covers about 1,095 km: Marrakech to Dades is approximately 350 km and 6–7 hours driving, Dades to Merzouga 275 km and 4–5 hours, and Merzouga to Fes 470 km and 7–8 hours. These driving times exclude stops. The four-day route also includes a local Merzouga excursion, and five-day routes add stages around Skoura.
How long is the camel trek, and can I take a 4×4 instead?
The camel trek takes approximately one hour each way, depending on camp location and dune conditions. It is planned around sunset, subject to arrival, weather and the season. In winter it may begin around or just after sunset, or be moved to the next morning. Tell us before departure if you prefer the arranged 4×4 camp transfer instead.
Does the desert camp have a private bathroom and air conditioning?
We propose private en-suite tents. Air conditioning, heating and their operating arrangements should be confirmed for the exact camp and tent category in your quote. Tell us which facilities are essential before booking so we can check suitable options. A private tent does not mean exclusive use of the entire camp.
Are these private or shared Marrakech desert tours?
This is a private tour collection: your vehicle and driver-guide are reserved for your booking. For two or three travelers we generally use a 4×4 such as a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado TX; four to eight travelers generally use a Mercedes Vito or Ford Tourneo minivan, with a minibus for larger groups. Vehicle allocation is confirmed for your dates. Hotels, camps and public attractions may host other guests.
How much does a private desert tour from Marrakech cost?
The price depends on your party size, duration, travel dates, room arrangements and accommodation category. Each linked itinerary shows its published group-size rates; your written quote confirms the applicable per-person rate and total. A large-group from price is not the rate for two people. Compare the named stays, meals, transfers and guiding services before choosing the lowest headline price.
Where do you pick us up in Marrakech?
Pickup is from your hotel or riad, or an agreed nearby vehicle-accessible meeting point when the street cannot be reached by car. We confirm the time before departure. Airport arrival transfers are included in the specified holiday itineraries; send your flight details so the first day's arrangements can be checked.
Can I book as a solo traveler?
Yes. You can book a private tour for one person. Because the vehicle and driver-guide are reserved for your booking, the per-person cost is higher than for a couple or larger party. Use the solo rate on the selected itinerary as a starting point and request confirmation for your dates and room category.
Are these tours suitable for families or travelers with mobility needs?
Private arrangements allow us to discuss breaks, rooming and a 4×4 transfer instead of camel riding. The routes still involve long drives, uneven sightseeing paths and sand around camp. Share children's ages and any mobility or access requirements before booking so we can check the proposed vehicle, properties and activities. Accessibility varies by location.
What is the best season for a Marrakech Sahara trip?
Spring and autumn generally suit a combination of road travel, sightseeing and time outdoors. Winter nights can be cold and mountain weather can affect crossings. Summer afternoons in Merzouga can be very hot, making activity timing and accommodation facilities especially important. Tell us your dates so the plan can reflect the season.
What should I wear and pack for the desert?
Bring loose, comfortable clothing, long trousers for camel riding, closed shoes, sunglasses, sun protection and a hat or scarf. Add layers for evenings and a warmer layer in winter. Carry your medication, water and daily essentials within reach during transfers, plus a small overnight bag for camp. Protect phones and cameras from sand.
What happens to our luggage during the camel trek?
Luggage transfer to and from the desert camp is included in the agreed camp arrangements. Your main bag travels separately from the camel trek. A smaller bag for overnight essentials makes arrival easier. Tell us about large suitcases, sports equipment or unusual luggage before departure so we can confirm space in the vehicle.
Can I fly out on the final evening?
Avoid a tight flight connection after the long return from Merzouga or the final drive to Fes. Road conditions and stops can affect arrival. The five-day Marrakech arrival itinerary finishes with a city visit, so an evening airport transfer can be arranged around an agreed flight time. Share the flight before booking; a particular connection is not automatically compatible with every route.
How does the five-day Marrakech holiday differ from a five-day desert tour?
The five-day Marrakech holiday includes airport arrival, a Marrakech riad stay, a three-day Dades and Merzouga round trip, and a final guided Marrakech visit. The five-day desert circuits devote the full route to the southern journey, adding a Merzouga exploration day and a Skoura overnight. Choose according to whether you need city and airport arrangements as part of the package.
Where can the Marrakech to Chefchaouen desert tour finish?
After Dades, Merzouga and Fes, the itinerary includes a guided Fes visit followed by a transfer to Chefchaouen. On day five you can agree drop-off in Tangier, Casablanca, Fes or Marrakech. Transfer length and the quote depend on that choice. Marrakech is the longest return, and an extra overnight can be discussed if it better fits your plans.

Send your dates, traveler numbers, route and accommodation preferences. We will check the proposed stays and transport, then provide the price and booking terms. Confirm the details before paying the agreed deposit. Review our cancellation policy and ask us to explain any unclear payment or cancellation conditions before you book.
